The Frisco Raccoons overcame a 17-point first-half deficit and delivered an explosive offensive performance to defeat the Denison Yellow Jackets 47–36 on Friday night, October 9.

After trailing 29–12 late in the second quarter, Frisco responded with big plays, timely defensive stops, and 28 second-half points to complete an impressive comeback in District 4-5A Division II action.

The Raccoons’ offense repeatedly answered Denison’s scoring drives, demonstrating resilience and the ability to capitalize on opportunities when the game was on the line.

Denison Builds an Early Lead

Denison established momentum early, putting together an 11-play, 65-yard touchdown drive to take a 7–0 lead with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter.

Frisco responded immediately with a long kickoff return to the Denison 9-yard line. One play later, the Raccoons reached the end zone to tie the game at 7–7.

However, the Yellow Jackets regained control in the second quarter, taking advantage of Frisco turnovers to build a 21–7 lead.

A Frisco fumble gave Denison possession at the Raccoons’ 47-yard line, while another lost fumble ended a promising Frisco drive deep in Denison territory.

Despite the early mistakes, Frisco continued battling.

A Denison punt attempt sailed over the punter’s head and out of the end zone, resulting in a safety that cut the deficit to 21–9.

Frisco kicker Lowery Asel followed with a successful field goal, bringing the Raccoons within nine points at 21–12.

Denison answered with another touchdown to extend its advantage to 29–12 with 3:37 remaining before halftime.

Frisco responded with one of the game’s biggest offensive plays when No. 1 Lacey broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run. Asel converted the extra point, cutting Denison’s lead to 29–19 with 1:34 remaining in the half.

The Yellow Jackets carried that 10-point advantage into halftime, but Frisco had begun building momentum.

Explosive Plays Fuel Frisco’s Third-Quarter Comeback

The Raccoons returned for the second half determined to erase the deficit.

Frisco’s defense provided an early opportunity by stopping Denison on fourth down at the Raccoons’ 31-yard line with 7:45 remaining in the third quarter.

Less than a minute later, Frisco struck with a 69-yard touchdown pass to Cowan, bringing the Raccoons within three points at 29–26.

Special teams then helped put Denison in difficult field position after the Yellow Jackets struggled to field the ensuing kickoff and began their possession at their own 6-yard line.

Frisco’s defense forced another punt, returning the ball to an offense that had found its rhythm.

The Raccoons moved into Denison territory and finished the possession with another touchdown and successful extra point.

With 1:37 remaining in the third quarter, Frisco took its first lead of the game, 33–29.

After trailing by as many as 17 points, the Raccoons had completed the comeback and put themselves in position for a strong finish.

Fourth-Quarter Offensive Battle

Denison refused to go away.

After moving deep into Frisco territory late in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets scored early in the fourth to reclaim a 36–33 lead.

But Frisco’s offense was far from finished.

With 8:54 remaining, the Raccoons connected with Lowery Asel on a 39-yard touchdown pass. The successful extra point put Frisco back in front, 40–36.

Denison mounted another drive, moving into Frisco territory before facing fourth-and-four at the Raccoons’ 33-yard line.

With 5:46 remaining, Frisco’s defense delivered another crucial fourth-down stop, giving the offense an opportunity to extend its lead.

The Raccoons took advantage.

Frisco moved down the field, reaching the Denison 12-yard line with just over four minutes remaining.

An 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:50 left, followed by the extra point, extended the Raccoons’ advantage to 47–36.

Denison’s final offensive opportunity was disrupted by a major Frisco sack that left the Yellow Jackets facing fourth-and-26 deep in their own territory.

Denison elected to punt with 1:54 remaining, allowing Frisco to regain possession and protect its 11-point advantage.

Coach’s Perspective: Explosive Offense Fuels Frisco’s Comeback

Scoring 47 points against a district opponent is an impressive offensive performance. Doing so after trailing by 17 points in the first half makes Frisco’s victory even more significant.

From a coaching perspective, one of the most impressive aspects of the Raccoons’ performance was their ability to overcome early mistakes without abandoning their offensive approach.

Despite multiple first-half turnovers, Frisco continued attacking Denison’s defense and generating explosive plays.

Lacey’s 44-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter was particularly important. Trailing 29–12, the Raccoons needed a response before halftime. That touchdown cut the deficit to 10 points and helped shift momentum heading into the second half.

The explosive plays continued after halftime.

A 69-yard touchdown pass to Cowan brought Frisco within three points in the third quarter, while a 39-yard touchdown pass to Lowery Asel in the fourth quarter put the Raccoons back in front, 40–36.

Those plays demonstrate how quickly an explosive offense can change the complexion of a football game.

However, Frisco’s success wasn’t limited to big plays.

After taking a 40–36 lead, the Raccoons put together another important scoring possession, finishing with an 11-yard touchdown pass that extended their advantage to 47–36 with 2:50 remaining.

The Raccoons also benefited from timely defensive stops that provided additional offensive opportunities.

The most important takeaway from this game was Frisco’s ability to respond to adversity. The Raccoons overcame turnovers, a significant deficit, and multiple lead changes while continuing to execute offensively.

Frisco’s 47-point performance demonstrated the value of explosive plays, offensive execution, and maintaining confidence when a game isn’t going according to plan.

Final Thoughts

Frisco’s 47–36 victory over Denison was a testament to the Raccoons’ offensive firepower and ability to overcome adversity.

After falling behind 29–12 in the first half, Frisco responded with explosive scoring plays, timely defensive stops, and an impressive second-half performance.

The Raccoons scored 28 points after halftime, took their first lead late in the third quarter, and answered Denison’s fourth-quarter touchdown with two more scoring drives.

For Denison, the Yellow Jackets demonstrated their offensive capabilities, building a substantial early lead and continuing to challenge Frisco throughout the contest.

Ultimately, Frisco’s ability to produce big plays and execute in critical situations proved decisive.

The Raccoons walked away with a hard-fought district victory and another example of what their offense can accomplish when it finds its rhythm.
