Class 5A Division II — Region I, District 4

The Frisco Raccoons delivered a statement victory Friday night, defeating the Celina Bobcats 33–20 in a crucial District 4-5A Division II matchup. The victory handed Celina its first district loss of the season and strengthened Frisco’s position in the district standings.

Entering the contest, Celina held a perfect 4–0 district record, while Frisco entered at 3–1. Both teams finished the evening with one district loss, with Frisco holding the head-to-head advantage.

Frisco Answers Early Celina Momentum

Celina briefly held a 7–6 lead before Frisco’s Lowery Asel delivered one of the game’s biggest plays, returning a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

Frisco quarterback Brenden Bounds contributed both through the air and on the ground, throwing for 97 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 62 yards and another score.

Kam Anderson added 74 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Kason Cowan caught a 36-yard touchdown pass.

Celina Attempts a Fourth-Quarter Comeback

With 6:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, a series of Frisco penalties helped move Celina deep into Raccoon territory. Two pass interference penalties and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gave the Bobcats an opportunity near the Frisco goal line.

Celina’s Legend Dangerfield (#10) capitalized with a touchdown at the 6:22 mark. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving Frisco ahead 26–13.

Celina attempted an onside kick, but the ball went out of bounds, giving Frisco possession at the Bobcats’ 44-yard line.

A bad snap on the ensuing Frisco possession pushed the Raccoons back to their own 32-yard line. Bounds (#4) recovered the loose ball, but Frisco eventually punted, returning possession to Celina with 3:54 remaining.

The Bobcats continued moving the football, aided by additional Frisco penalties, including an offsides call and a roughing-the-passer penalty with just over three minutes remaining.

Frisco Defense Delivers in Closing Minutes

Despite the penalties, Frisco’s defense produced several important plays to preserve its advantage.

Defensive lineman Slade Leaumont (#44) recorded a sack that pushed Celina backward. Later, Jayel Graham (#7) delivered a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery return, extending Frisco’s lead to 33–13 following the successful extra point.

Celina continued competing until the final minute, driving into Frisco territory before scoring a touchdown with 53 seconds remaining.

The Bobcats converted the extra point, but Frisco closed out the 33–20 victory.

According to Texas HS Football, Frisco’s defense held Celina to 192 total yards.

Coach’s Perspective

One of the most significant factors in Frisco’s victory was its ability to generate game-changing plays in multiple phases of the game.

Asel’s 95-yard kickoff return provided an immediate response after Celina briefly took the lead, while Graham’s late defensive touchdown helped secure the victory.

Frisco also demonstrated the importance of defensive pressure in the fourth quarter. Despite penalties that extended Celina possessions, the Raccoons recorded key sacks and created a turnover that resulted in points.

Those plays illustrate how special teams and defensive execution can influence the outcome of a competitive district football game.

District Implications

The victory moved Frisco into a stronger position in the District 4-5A Division II standings. Both teams finished the night with one district loss, but the Raccoons gained the head-to-head tiebreaker over Celina.

Frisco was subsequently recognized as Texas HS Football’s Week Eight Class 5A Team of the Week.
